PROJECT ROZANA RESPONDS TO THE CURRENT CONFLICT IN THE REGION

Two doves with olive branches in the colours of Palestine and Israel. A metaphor for peace and ceasefire. Negotiations, treaties, agreements and deals lead to peaceful coexistence.

Media Statement, Melbourne, 15 May 2021

The following was issued by Ron Finkel AM, Chair of Project Rozana Australia on behalf of the Board of Project Rozana Australia.

We are extremely saddened by the violence in Israel and Gaza, which is causing untold hardship to both communities.

We mourn the loss of life. Our thoughts today are with those who are grieving.

We join all those who are calling for an immediate de-escalation of the hostilities, so that no more lives are lost, or injuries sustained.

Over the last eight years, Project Rozana’s Mission has been centred on health as a bridge to better understanding between Israelis and Palestinians. We reaffirm our belief in the power of people-to-people relationships. Creating this bridge requires listening, understanding, partnership and hope. None of that is sustainable if the violence in Israel and across the borders continues.

We must do everything we can to ensure that the achievements are not undermined by current events.

We urge leaders on all sides to step back from the conflict and recognise that there can be a shared future in which the health and wellbeing of their communities is enhanced through mutual respect and consultation.
